JANUARY 2015: Good News

Recently an opportunity has arisen for the coop to acquire a plot of land in exchange for refurbishment work. Work has begun on insulation and home improvements. Compulsory treatment of small patches of knotweed on the plot started in September 2014, preparing the ground for the possibility of applying for planning permission for 1 or 2 small, sustainable and affordable homes.

There are still many hurdles to overcome, so meanwhile, other options for renovation and building are being explored. Home Presteigne is also in discussion with possible project partners at Cwm Harry.

JULY 2014: Consultation and Launch

Between May and July 2014, two residents of Presteigne were employed to run an opening communications project and launch, which was funded by Big Lottery (Awards for All Wales) and Presteigne and Norton Town Council.

The project provided an introduction to the new housing coop. The team devised and distributed a questionnaire, to give people a chance to rate different housing options and input their own ideas.

The results of the questionnaire were presented at a very well-attended launch in the Church Hall on the 9th of July.

27th May 2014

The grant funded project  ‘WHAT DO YOU THINK?’ will help launch Home Presteigne. It’s a 10-week project, employing two local people. We are funded by the Big Lottery, with support from the Town Council.

‘WHAT DO YOU THINK?’ is all about having new conversations about sustainable and affordable housing. We have been out and about at different events in the town, listening to everyone’s housing needs, views and ideas.

We also organised a free children’s art project at The Rodd, exploring sustainable housing and funded by the JAC Trust.

And don’t forget to come to the special launch of Home Presteigne on 9th July in St Andrew’s Hall. We will be open from 3.00pm for people to drop in and chat, with a special event in the evening.

THANK YOU

We are grateful to our funders The Big Lottery and also the Town Council and JAC Trust, for seeing the potential in this project.
